Facing a harsh winter in his rural home, Dominique Imbert designs his first fireplace from a few pieces of sheet metal – the Antefocus.

While protestors argue for revolution in the streets of Paris, Dominique Imbert revolutionises fireplace design with the Gyrofocus. It is the world’s first steel fireplace detached from the wall, suspended from the ceiling, with a hearth that can rotate 360°.

Focus wins its first international contract, equipping 301 apartments of a luxury residence in Japan with the Paxfocus.
1993

1993

Focus acquires the struggling metalworks that makes its fireplaces, saving a dozen jobs and ensuring its production capacity. It is renamed Théus Industries.

New York’s Guggenheim Museum exhibits the artist Xavier Veilhan’s Le Feu (‘The Fire’), an extraordinary installation with a Gyrofocus as the central feature, previously exhibited at the contemporary art museums in Bordeaux and Grenoble.

Dominique Imbert is commissioned by architect Norman Foster to design a fireplace for the headquarters of Electronic Arts in London: the first Filiofocus.

Focus launches the elegantly streamlined Slimfocus fireplace, its first balanced-flue model in a new energy-efficient range adapted to low-energy homes.

After 50 years at the helm of the company, Dominique Imbert hands over management to two close associates, Jean-Marc Chalier and Laurent Gaborit, trusting their ambitious strategic vision to take the company forward.

Focus celebrates its 50th anniversary, inviting its dealers from around the world to the south of France.

Gas by Focus – Controlled passion. Focus launches a gas version of the iconic Gyrofocus while retaining the legendary pivoting hearth, a patented world-first.

Wood by Focus – Pure authenticity. After two years of R&D, Focus launches the closed wood-burning Gyrofocus, meeting the European Ecodesign Directive, one of the strictest energy and environmental standards in the world.

Holographik® by Focus – Spirit of fire. Focus enters a new era by launching an electric version of the iconic Ergofocus and Bathyscafocus, which offer ultra-realistic virtual flames, gentle heat and incomparable ease of use.

Bioethanol by Focus – Air of freedom. These smokeless, ventless models still levitate above the ground, but do not require an external flue, allowing a suspended fireplace that is simply fixed to the ceiling and opening up endless installation possibilities.
